Abstract

Optical absorption spectra of KBr:Tl+ (0.01mol%) single crystals shows A, B and C bands around 258, 220 and 210nm respectively. An additional absorption bands are observed in KBr-KI: Eu2+, Tl+ (0.05, 0.01mol %) mixed crystals. These additional absorption spectra are attributed to the presence of Eu2+ aggregates and complex centers involving both Eu2+ and Tl+ ions. Inclusion of Tl+ ions in KBr-KI: Eu2+ crystal is found to enhance the intensity of Eu2+ absorption band due to an energy transfer from Tl+?Eu2+ ions.
